Thursday and the Ocean

I am starting off with this picture from Sunday - looking past little miss Olivia's adorable tush, notice the wind break fence in the back ground. The water that you see is a pool of water that was trapped "inland" between the ocean and the beach - that Olivia loved playing in but was gone by Wednesday when the water was higher. From where she is standing, the waves are still 15 feet further out.

Then look at the fence in proximity to the water in this one. By Thursday morning, it was coming up into the fence.

Our gentle, peaceful seas of Sunday and Monday gave way to this by Thursday as Ike passed hundreds of miles to the south.

And so, we canceled our New Orleans reservations and headed home, arriving at around 10pm last night. Once again, Olivia didn't do too bad in light of the fact that she had to spend 12 hours in a car seat.

The trip was wonderful. We all enjoy the beach so much, and this seems nearly perfect. It is a reasonable close location, our condo complex is right on the beach (especially yesterday, when the ocean had gone from around 100 or more feet away to less than 15 feet from the end of the boardwalk), there are 4 pools to enjoy and lots to do in the area if we feel the need for something other than beach-going. And, this time, the condo itself was perfect. Roomy, quiet and no noxious odors!

It was fun having mom and Roy along with us. It gave them and Olivia some quality time together and I had a shopping buddy! Also, it is always nice to have extra hands and eyes to keep track of the an always in motion little girl.

Too bad you had to leave early, but at least you got a little beach time in.

Glad you got home and are safe ahead of Ike! I am watching live streaming on KHOU.com and the early images are incredible! (I know you were a few states over...but I've been to the gulf and understand the implications!)
